About Howard Marks
Marks has helped guide Oaktree’s investment philosophy, client communication and major investment and corporate decisions since the firm’s formation in 1995. Before Oaktree, he led TCW groups investing in distressed debt, high-yield bonds and convertible securities from 1985 to 1995. His earlier sixteen years at Citicorp Investment Management included equity research and later responsibility for convertible and high-yield securities. He studied finance at Wharton and earned an MBA at Chicago. Oaktree identifies him as co-chair; his career explains the profile’s emphasis on credit investing and investment judgment rather than a single public-equity strategy.
